Akon est né le 30 avril 1973 à Dakar au Sénégal,

Sa famille est musicienne. Après avoir était percussionniste, Akon s'est finalement passionné pour la culture et la musique hip-hop. Depuis, il ne passe sa vie qu’au hip-hop. Akon a énormément évolué sur le plan musical en concentrant son énergie dans l'écriture et la production de sa musique.

La musique d'Akon est un savant mélange de hip-hop et de Soul-music. Akon est un auteur-compositeur-interprète et producteur plein de talents, comme le montre l’album Locked Up, dont le premier morceau Trouble raconte le passage d’Akon par la case prison, où il écrit Smack That.

Explication des paroles :

Cette chanson raconte tout ce qui a conduit Akon à la prison. Dans les paroles, il se présente comme un mauvais garçon provocateur qui fait les quatre cents coups dans les boîtes de nuit,

pour séduire les jeunes femmes. Il se prétend être un briseur de cœurs et un fauteur de troubles. Il a écrit cette chanson pour que des personnes parmi son public, ne fassent pas les bêtises qui peuvent les conduire en prison.

Annalyse Musicale :

Dans le refrain il y a un chœur de femmes enregistré naturellement. Elles représentent les filles qu’Akon a draguées. Akon a enregistré sa voix dans un vocoder, synthétiseur vocal, qui filtre les harmoniques graves.

Il s’est inspiré du reggæ de Bob Marley (Jamaïque).

Lorsqu’il fait des bêtises pour draguer les filles, le débit rapide de ses paroles rappelle le morse utilisé comme un message vis-à-vis des femmes qu’il veut séduire. Akon s’inspire aussi de la culture musicale afro-antillaise. Les voix du chœur reprennent les mots Heartbreaker (briseur de cœurs) et Troublemacker (fauteur de troubles).

Les instruments sont : une boîte à rythmes = grosse caisse et les claps (claquements de mains). Le synthétiseur accompagne sur un son de slow strings wave (sons de cordes frottées avec coups d’archet amples).
